Quick Engagement Tip - Profile Picture

Go to your favorite brand’s Facebook fan page and what you’re most likely to see is a picture of their company logo as their profile picture. There is nothing wrong with including your logo in your profile picture, but if it’s the only thing there you’re missing out on a great opportunity. You see, when fans visit your page, chances are they are already aware of who you are and what you look like since they sought you out; plus, Facebook lists your company name in bold across the top of every page. Instead, think of using your profile picture as a way to engage your audience and promote your products. Check out these great examples we love and see if you can be inspired to create a new profile picture of your own.

If your product has visual appeal, you can use a product shot to entice your audience and create a sense of desire. Our client OC Celebrity Smiles does this with a beautiful white smile and local bakery Nadia Cakes shows a mouth-watering delight.

Small businesses with a single retail outlet can feature a picture of their storefront, emphasizing curb appeal while also clarifying location. Design boutique Studio Chameleon and client Telesis Collision Center have had great success using this approach.

Finally, national brands can honor their fans by featuring them in their profile pictures. Toys “R” Us asks fans to submit their photo and chooses one each week as the featured fan.

Additional profile profile picture ideas: if you are what stands out most about your business, feature your own photo (this works great for consultants, like us); if you’re offering a sale, include the promotion in your profile picture to draw immediate attention to the discount; or if you’re running a contest, market the contest and give instructions on how to find out more.
